Steam Plant Superintendent
Our client has a full-time permanent position available for a Superintendent, Steam Plant (Class 1 Power Engineer) in Chapleau, ON
Operate, lead and maintain the steam and power plant consisting of a bark burning co-generation plant and one (1) oil boiler while ensuring a safe, efficient and environmentally friendly department while complying with company policies.
Promote and provide a safe workplace, seek improvements, support Health & Safety Program.
Lead a motivated, efficient and engaged team of 14 direct reports and provide career development opportunities.
Coach and mentor employees to ensure maximum performance.
Maintain a communications program to keep your team informed regarding mill and department priorities.
Support compliance with collective agreement and sound union/management/employee relations.
Report to the Chapleau site General Manager.
Operations:
Ensure effective management and optimization of steam plant operations to ensure a continuous high quality, low cost steam supply to the sawmill and electrical power to the grid while ensuring that regulatory standards are met.
Manage and optimize energy consumption and sale.
Ensure department operating budgets are prepared, met, and variances explained with appropriate corrective action taken as needed.
Ensure kiln heating system and condensate returns are operating in a safe and efficient manner.
Ensures the implementation of medium to long term maintenance plan in areas of accountability, developed in conjunction with maintenance services, to maximize uptime and efficiency.
Prepare and implement a cost reduction program and explain variances.
Prepare, and recommend for approval, department capital spending plans; and implementation to ensure results are achieved for the approved requests.
Ensure Management systems ISO14001 & OHSAS 18001 are implemented, maintained, and standards met in areas of accountability.
Ensure compliance with all legislation and take corrective action as required.
Promote and provide a safe work place and ensure corrective actions are taken as required.
Assist in the development of health & safety programs on site and ensure the implementation and maintenance of these programs in areas of accountability.
Ensure full compliance with the Collective Agreement and foster sounds union/management/employee relations.
Ensure all employees in the department demonstrate maximum effectiveness in role and are developed for potential future advancement.
Assist in the preparation and implementation of a communication program to promote employee awareness, motivation, and participation.
Monitor and report on a daily basis steam usage and power production.
Review and update operating procedures as needed, to optimize the plant efficiency (SOPs for all activities).
Advise and/or recommend changes/opportunities outside of direct accountability that will contribute to optimizing the short and long term objectives of the site.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education: A valid First Class Power Engineering license
Experience: minimum 5 years as a Chief Engineer
Bilingual: English, French considered an asset
